Association for Asian Union & Asia-Pacific Cooperation

A Non-Governmental Organization to promote the idea of UNITED ASIA (Founded 31 Aug. 2001)

Home & Contact

Strength lies in Unity. Prosperity increases in Unity. There is an European Union, which has changed the face of Europe. We are trying to create an Asian Union, which will change the face of Asia in all fields: economic, social, strategic and finally in the political arena. We began in June 1999 for a South Asian Union, under the name “Forum for Confederation in the Sub-Continent”, a registered NGO in New Delhi, India. However, soon after, the situation in the Sub-Continent deteriorated sharply because of a Military coup in Pakistan, the Kargil war between India and Pakistan and the hijacking of an Indian plane from Kathmandu to Kandahar, which led to release of some terrorists. It was then realized that we should work for the entire continent of Asia, or as much of it  as is feasible, on the pattern of the European Union. Hence the “Association for Asian Union” was founded on 31st August 2001.

In Europe they began with 6 countries; gradually they became 9, then 12 , then 15, then 28. Now  some more countries are waiting to join, even after Brexit. In Asia also we can begin with 15 or 18 countries of  South East & East Asia. Others will follow automatically as Democracy & Secularism progress in other Asian countries. There is already a nucleus in 10 countries of ASEAN+Japan, South Korea and India &  more Democratic and Secular countries from SAARC even without Pakistan.

There is going to be a new environment of peace with vigor, and tremendous hope of prosperity. An Asian Union does not mean free for all but coordination of policies for keeping peace and for development with lower tariffs and higher investments wherever beneficial to all concerned. Same will apply to movement of people from one country to another.  Peace and prosperity in Asia will make a remarkable contribution to peace and prosperity in the world.

While keeping our long-term lofty goals in view , we will continue working on the ground for welfare of people in various fields like Art & Culture,  Children's affairs,  Civic Issues,  Dalit Upliftment,  Differently Abled,  Education & Literacy,  Environment & Forests,  HIV/AIDS,  Human Rights,  Micro Small & Medium Enterprises,  Minority Issues,  Tourism,  Vocational Training,  Religious Harmony, Secularism and Progress of Democracy.

All Asians and all friends of Asia are invited to join this noble cause. Please see Membership page for joining as Patrons, Life Members, Institutional Members and Associate Members.

Since March 2015, the scope of activities of the NGO has been increased to include Asia-Pacific Cooperation. The main reason for this is that Asia of present does not have too many large and strong Democracies, while progress of Democracy in Asia is the key to an Asian Union and World Peace. Asia-Pacific which includes countries like USA, Canada, Australia & New Zealand has strong Democracies. Cooperation with Asia-Pacific will help in progress of Democracy in Asia and this in turn will lead to an Asian Union and to a peaceful Global Society.

A possible flag of the future Asian Union--

white background with stars of different colours.

Each member country could choose a colour out of

colours of the rainbow for the star to represent it.

We are confident, the future Asian Union will have the

harmony and beauty of a rainbow.

ACTION PLAN:

This being a New Idea, all like-minded persons from all over the world are invited to participate. The aim is to create similar organizations in all countries of Asia, from Lebanon and Israel in the west to Korea and Japan in the east, and from Mongolia in the north to Indonesia in the south. These organizations will promote the idea behind the AAU (Association for Asian Union) among the people in all segments of society, namely, intellectuals, business people, politicians, people connected with art and culture, students, youth organizations, the media etc. Once we have created a strong public opinion, the governments of Asian countries will have to take notice and the dream will become a reality.

Since creation of similar organization in all countries, Asian as well as Non -Asian, will require a core group in a central place, all enthusiasts are requested to join the organization already created in India.

The future shape of the Asian Union is the subject of discussion and debate in various branches. For example, countries like Russia and Turkey are half-Asian and half-European. What should be their position in the Asian Union? Perhaps they can be associate members. Similarly Australia and New Zealand may want to be associated with Asian Union. These and many other issues will require discussion and decision.
